Dhekiajuli: More than 200 members and supporters of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) gathered outside the Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle Office on Tuesday for a two-hour demonstration, seeking government action on eviction, rehabilitation, land rights and citizenship-related issues.
The protest began around noon and continued for two hours. Participants raised concerns over eviction drives and called for affected families to be provided with proper rehabilitation and eligible landless residents to be granted land pattas.
The organisation also pressed for National Identity Cards to be issued to eligible citizens and urged the authorities to ensure that legal procedures are followed while addressing matters involving vulnerable and landless communities.
AAMSU representatives said families displaced by eviction drives should receive adequate rehabilitation and called on the government to address their concerns through what they described as lawful and humanitarian measures.
AAMSU central committee president Imtiaz Hussain and secretary Minnatul Islam attended the demonstration. Sonitpur district committee president Altaf Alam and secretary Gulzar Hussain were also present during the protest.
The demonstration concluded after the two-hour sit-in, with the organisation reiterating its demands concerning eviction, rehabilitation, land ownership and citizenship documentation.
