NFR Installs Modern Parcel Cages at Key Stations to Improve Handling and Security

GUWAHATI: A new initiative by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to bring greater organisation and security to parcel operations, with modern parcel cages being installed at several important railway stations across its network.

The facilities are planned at Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Haldibari, Malda Court, Balurghat and Katihar. Installation work is currently underway at New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Malda Court and Balurghat, while work at Kishanganj, Siliguri and Haldibari is expected to begin shortly.

The newly introduced cages will provide designated spaces for temporarily keeping parcels and luggage before they are processed, handled or dispatched. The arrangement is expected to bring greater order to parcel operations and help railway personnel manage consignments more efficiently.

The dedicated storage facilities will also allow the railway to make better use of available space at the stations. By creating clearly identified areas for parcels, the system is expected to make the movement and handling of consignments more systematic.

According to NFR, the initiative will also strengthen security during parcel handling and reduce the possibility of consignments being misplaced, damaged or stolen while awaiting further movement. The improved arrangement is expected to provide greater reliability for passengers and customers using railway parcel services.

Once the installations are completed at all seven stations, the facilities are expected to support smoother parcel operations and contribute to a more efficient and secure handling system across the selected locations.
