Guwahati: With the festive season expected to bring a surge in passenger traffic, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced four pairs of special trains to provide additional travel options during Puja, Diwali and Chhath.

The special services will connect important destinations across Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and will operate for different periods between October and December.

Among the services announced by NFR is Train No. 05742/05741, which will connect New Jalpaiguri with Gomti Nagar. The special train will run from October 4 to November 30, making nine trips in each direction.

The New Jalpaiguri-Gomti Nagar service will leave New Jalpaiguri at 8.30 pm every Sunday and arrive at Gomti Nagar at 9.10 am the following Monday. On its return journey, the train will depart Gomti Nagar at 12.20 pm on Mondays and reach New Jalpaiguri at 3 pm on Tuesday.

The service will halt at several stations along the route, including Siliguri Junction, Thakurganj, Araria Court, Purnia, Katihar, Mansi, Khagaria, Samastipur, Hajipur, Chhapra and Gorakhpur.

NFR has also introduced Train No. 07555/07554 between Katihar and Purnia. The service will operate daily from October 1 through November 30, completing 61 trips in both directions.

The Katihar-Purnia special will depart Katihar at 9.30 pm and arrive at Purnia at 10.40 pm. The return train will leave Purnia at 11.40 pm and reach Katihar at 2 am. It will stop at Dalan, Rautara and Ranipatra.

Two additional special services will operate between Katihar and Manihari. Train No. 07540/07539 is scheduled to run from October 2 to November 30, with 43 trips in each direction. Another service, Train No. 07544/07543, will operate from October 1 to December 1, making 18 trips in both directions.

The Katihar-Manihari special services will have stoppages at Mansahi and Mahiyarpur. Their operations will take place on specified days according to the announced schedule.

The additional trains are intended to provide more travel capacity during one of the busiest periods of the year, when passenger movement typically increases because of festival-related travel.

Northeast Frontier Railway has advised passengers to check the latest timetable, stoppages and operating dates before travelling. Details of the services are available through the IRCTC website as well as NFR’s official communication channels and social media platforms.

Passengers are advised to verify the train schedule before beginning their journey, as timings and operational details may be subject to change.
