Guwahati: The cleanliness drive in Guwahati has entered an important evaluation phase, with 352 committees participating in the Swachh Guwahati Competition organised by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
A specialised core evaluation team is currently visiting the participating committees and assessing their work against the prescribed parameters, according to the GMC’s latest official update.
The evaluation is aimed at identifying committees that have demonstrated strong performance in maintaining cleanliness and improving their surroundings. The best-performing participants will subsequently be recognised for their contribution towards creating a cleaner and greener city.
The initiative places emphasis on community-level participation in improving sanitation and cleanliness across Guwahati. The GMC has previously undertaken several programmes related to solid waste management, sanitation and citizen participation, including awareness initiatives under the Swachhata framework.
The ongoing assessment is expected to provide a basis for recognising efforts by participating committees and encouraging greater community involvement in keeping neighbourhoods clean.
The GMC’s official website identifies the Guwahati Municipal Corporation as a Government of Assam organisation. Its current official records list Shri Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, A.C.S., as Commissioner of GMC.
With hundreds of committees taking part, the competition is aimed at strengthening public participation in cleanliness efforts and promoting a more sustainable and hygienic urban environment in Guwahati.
