Ramanuj Goswami’s Body Likely to Be Handed Over After GMCH Post-Mortem

Guwahati: The post-mortem examination of Ramanuj Goswami, who died after allegedly sustaining critical injuries while in police custody, is being conducted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). His body is expected to be handed over to his family after the completion of the necessary procedures.

Goswami’s body has been kept at the GMCH mortuary, with his family members reportedly reaching Guwahati to complete the formalities and receive the body. His final rites are expected to take place at his ancestral home in Gauripur, Dhubri district.

Goswami had been taken into police custody in connection with the alleged killing of his wife. According to police, he later complained of health-related problems and was being taken to GMCH for medical attention.

Police said the vehicle carrying Goswami developed a tyre puncture near the TV Tower area. During the incident, he allegedly assaulted a police constable and managed to flee from the vehicle. Police further stated that Goswami fell from a hill while attempting to escape in the darkness, suffering serious injuries in the process.

He was subsequently taken to GMCH, where doctors declared him dead.

The circumstances leading to Goswami’s death remain under investigation. Further legal and procedural formalities are being completed before his mortal remains are released to his family.
