Ramanuj Goswami Dies After Jumping From Narakasur Hill While in Police Custody

Guwahati: A dramatic turn of events unfolded in the Riya Talukdar Goswami murder case early Monday, as Ramanuj Goswami, the prime accused in the case, died after allegedly jumping from Narakasur Hill while he was being taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 3 am when Ramanuj was being taken from Hatigaon to GMCH for a blood test. Police said he allegedly attempted to flee from custody and jumped from Narakasur Hill, sustaining critical injuries.

He was subsequently taken to GMCH for treatment, where he reportedly succumbed to his injuries.

The development came on the same day that the shraddha ceremony of 25-year-old Riya Talukdar Goswami was being conducted at Gauripur. Riya’s death had led to the registration of a murder case in which Ramanuj was named as the prime accused.

Following confirmation of Ramanuj’s death, his father reportedly declined to accept the body. He said that the matter relating to his son’s death had been left to the people as well as the Gauhati High Court and the Supreme Court.

The sudden death of the prime accused has added another significant development to a case that has drawn considerable public attention. Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident are awaited.
