Assam BJP Plans Month-Long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Sarma Calls for Wider Public Outreach

Guwahati: With the BJP preparing for a month-long public service campaign across Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged party workers to move beyond organisational activities and strengthen their engagement with people through community-oriented initiatives.

Sarma made the appeal at the BJP Assam Pradesh extended State Executive Committee meeting held in Guwahati on Friday, where preparations for the upcoming ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan – Jan Seva is Narayan Seva’ were discussed.

The campaign, scheduled from September 17 to October 17, 2026, is being organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. The Assam BJP is planning a series of programmes covering healthcare, blood donation, cleanliness, youth engagement, Anganwadi activities and social awareness.

Sarma said the month-long initiative should not remain limited to commemorative events. Instead, he called on BJP workers to use the campaign as an opportunity to reach different sections of society and demonstrate the party’s stated commitment to public service.

Blood Donation Drive in Memory of Zubeen Garg

One of the major programmes planned in Assam will be a statewide blood donation initiative on September 19, dedicated to the memory of legendary Assamese artiste Zubeen Garg.

Sarma has appealed to party workers as well as members of the wider public to participate in the blood donation programme, describing it as a humanitarian gesture in remembrance of the popular artiste.

The campaign will formally get underway on September 17, with the lighting of ‘Ashirwad Banti’ at 6 pm in every Legislative Assembly constituency, according to the programme details shared by the party.

Several Activities Planned Across Assam

The BJP’s month-long schedule will include a range of public service and outreach programmes. These are expected to include health-related initiatives, cleanliness campaigns, activities at Anganwadi centres, programmes involving students and young people, and various public awareness drives.

Programmes will also be organised on important dates during the campaign. September 25, the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, will be marked with service activities and floral tributes.

On October 2, programmes commemorating Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary will focus on themes such as Swadeshi, Khadi, simplicity and cleanliness. Large-scale cleanliness drives are also planned across the state.

Dilip Saikia Urges Workers to Participate

Addressing the media, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia described the campaign as more than an organisational exercise. He said the initiative was intended to reinforce the party’s connection with society through service-oriented activities.

Saikia called for active participation from BJP workers at every level of the organisation, including the state, district, mandal and booth levels.

The Assam BJP has already been preparing its organisational machinery for the nationwide campaign. Earlier meetings and training programmes have focused on coordinating activities across the state and ensuring participation by party leaders, elected representatives and grassroots workers.

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being conducted nationally from September 17 to October 17 to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. The nationwide programme includes multiple public outreach and service activities, with state BJP units tasked with implementing programmes locally.
