Assam Police Seize 46 Cattle, 14 Buffaloes and 72.5 Kg Beef; Four Arrested

Guwahati: Assam Police have intensified their crackdown on alleged cattle smuggling, with a recent operation leading to the recovery of 46 cattle and 14 buffaloes along with the seizure of 72.5 kg of beef.

Four people were arrested in connection with the operation, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who shared details of the police action on social media.

Sarma said the operation was carried out by Assam Police as part of ongoing enforcement efforts against cattle smuggling in the state. He described the arrests and recoveries as another step towards tightening action against those allegedly involved in the illegal trade.

The action comes amid continued enforcement of Assam’s cattle preservation laws, which regulate the slaughter, transportation and sale of beef in the state. The Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, provides the legal framework governing such activities.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the alleged smuggling network and determine the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the animals and the seized meat.
