Guwahati is set to strengthen its international air connectivity with IndiGo announcing direct flights to Bangkok from October 2026, providing travellers from Northeast India with a new non-stop option to Thailand.
The airline will operate the Guwahati-Bangkok service twice a week, with flights scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A special inaugural service is planned for October 27, while regular operations are expected to begin from October 31.
The new route will mark IndiGo’s first international operations from Guwahati and its entry into direct international connectivity from Northeast India. The service is expected to make travel between the region and Thailand more convenient while supporting tourism, business travel and cultural exchanges.
The direct connection could also benefit travellers from other northeastern states who use Guwahati as their primary air gateway. With Bangkok serving as an important destination and transit point in Southeast Asia, the new service may improve access to several international destinations beyond Thailand.
For IndiGo, the launch also represents another milestone in its long association with Guwahati. The airline began its operations in the city in 2006 with a Delhi-Guwahati-Imphal service and has since expanded its presence across the Northeast.
The development comes as Guwahati’s international connectivity continues to grow. Air India has recently started weekly international services from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Guwahati-Dubai flight operates every Tuesday, while the Guwahati-Abu Dhabi service operates every Wednesday.
With the addition of Bangkok to Guwahati’s international flight network, the city is emerging as an increasingly important gateway for passengers from Northeast India seeking direct connections to destinations outside the country.
