Guwahati, September 7, 2026: A theft investigation in Guwahati has led to the arrest of three people and the recovery of a large quantity of electronic devices, including mobile phones, laptops and an iPad, police said.
The operation was carried out by a team from Fatasil Ambari Police Station following an attempted smartphone theft in the Barsapara area. Police identified the first arrested person as Jahidul Khan, 45, of Barpeta.
Further investigation into the case reportedly uncovered links to suspected receivers of stolen property. Police subsequently arrested Hazrat Ali and Habijur Hoque, both residents of Darrang, in connection with the investigation.
The enforcement operation resulted in the recovery and seizure of 20 mobile handsets, laptops and an iPad. The total value of the recovered electronic items has been estimated at approximately ₹9 lakh, according to Guwahati Police.
The development highlights the role of follow-up investigation in tracing stolen property beyond the initial theft. The arrests of the alleged receivers indicate that investigators are examining not only the attempted theft but also the possible network through which stolen electronic goods were being handled.
Police have initiated legal proceedings in the case, while further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered devices and the alleged involvement of those arrested.
The latest action comes amid continued efforts by Guwahati Police to tackle theft and property-related crimes in the city. Recent police operations have also resulted in the recovery of stolen electronic goods in different parts of Guwahati.
Authorities have urged vigilance against theft and stressed the importance of prompt reporting and investigation of property-related offences as police continue efforts to track stolen goods and those involved in their disposal.
