Guwahati: Assam Police has prevented 17 alleged illegal entrants from entering India during an operation carried out in the early hours, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sharing the development on social media, Sarma said the individuals were identified before they could enter the country, describing the operation as an alert and proactive intervention by Assam Police.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s position that people entering India through legal channels are welcome, while those attempting to cross the border without valid documentation would be stopped and sent back.
The announcement comes amid continued efforts by Assam Police and other security agencies to maintain vigilance against unauthorised cross-border movement. Similar operations involving alleged illegal entrants have been reported earlier this year, with authorities regularly highlighting heightened surveillance along Assam’s border areas.
