Guwahati: Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) has directed district authorities to ensure the participation of eligible schools in the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and environmentally sustainable practices in educational institutions.
The directive has been issued to all District Mission Coordinators (DMCs) in line with instructions from the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. District officials have been asked to inform all eligible schools in their respective jurisdictions and ensure their timely registration through the SHVR Portal or the mobile application.
The SHVR 2026 programme seeks to encourage schools to maintain clean, safe and eco-friendly campuses through a structured rating system. Along with evaluating schools on sanitation, hygiene and environmental practices, the initiative aims to create greater awareness among students, teachers and other stakeholders about the importance of sustainable and healthy school environments.
To facilitate smooth implementation, SSA has recommended that the District Programme Officer (Community Participation) be designated as the District Nodal Officer for the programme. The nodal officer will be responsible for coordinating the initiative at the district level, monitoring school participation and submitting reports on the progress of registrations.
According to the official communication, the SHVR Portal and Mobile Application became operational on August 1, 2026, enabling schools across Assam and the country to register and participate in the national programme. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Education aims to strengthen cleanliness, sanitation and green practices in schools while encouraging institutions to adopt higher standards of environmental responsibility and campus hygiene.
