Badarpur: Assam Police have intensified their crackdown on illegal drugs with the seizure of around 14,000 Yaba tablets and the apprehension of five people in Badarpur, Sribhumi district, Assam.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation in a post on X, praising the Sribhumi Police for intercepting two vehicles during the anti-drug operation.
According to Sarma, the seized consignment comprised 14,000 Yaba tablets, which he put at an estimated value of ₹1.40 crore. Five people were apprehended in connection with the seizure.
The Chief Minister used a light-hearted reference to a school bag in his post while highlighting the recovery, apparently referring to the manner in which the suspected narcotics were being transported.
Sarma also commended the Sribhumi Police and Assam Police for their action as part of the state’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs under the broader “Assam Against Drugs” initiative.
Further reports on the operation said the two intercepted vehicles included an Alto and a Mahindra SUV. The operation was carried out in the Badarpur area, with the seized tablets reportedly weighing around 1.4 kg. Some reports have placed the estimated market value of the recovered tablets at approximately ₹2.5 crore, which differs from the ₹1.40 crore figure stated by the Chief Minister in his post.
The five apprehended individuals have been handed over to the police for further investigation, with authorities expected to examine the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.
The seizure comes amid continued enforcement efforts against drug trafficking in southern Assam, where police and security agencies have stepped up operations to disrupt narcotics networks operating through the region.
