Udaipur (Tripura): An 18-year-old woman has lodged a police complaint in Tripura’s Gomati district, alleging that her husband pronounced triple talaq and forced her out of their matrimonial home after months of alleged dowry-related harassment.
The complaint was filed at Udaipur Police Station by Tahima Akhater, who claimed that the incident took place on July 24 at Dataram under the Udaipur subdivision. She has sought legal action against her husband, Nasim Uddin, stating that the pronouncement of triple talaq is prohibited under Indian law.
According to the FIR, Tahima and Nasim were married about one-and-a-half years ago. She alleged that within three months of the marriage, her husband and mother-in-law began demanding ₹4 lakh from her parental family and subjected her to repeated physical and mental abuse when the demand was not met.
The complainant further alleged that she was assaulted on multiple occasions and, in one instance, was beaten publicly near a local school. Unable to cope with the alleged harassment, she temporarily returned to her parents’ home.
Tahima stated in her complaint that when she returned to her matrimonial home on July 24, her husband allegedly pronounced triple talaq and compelled her to leave the house.
Following the incident, she approached the police seeking legal action against her husband and others allegedly involved. Police have registered the complaint and are expected to investigate the allegations in accordance with the law.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the case, and the allegations contained in the FIR are yet to be independently verified. The investigation is currently underway.
