Guwahati: A tragic road accident cast a shadow over Eid celebrations in Assam after three young men lost their lives in a devastating collision in North Guwahati late on Eid night.
According to reports, the accident took place at Joyguru area on the Guwahati–Naokata road when a speeding truck allegedly coming from the wrong side collided head-on with a Scorpio vehicle. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the death of all three occupants of the Scorpio on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Partha Pratim Barman, Ranjit Dey and Karuna Bezbaruah. Sources said one of the victims was a resident of Naokata, while the other two belonged to the Maligaon area of Guwahati.
Initial reports suggest that the accident occurred after the truck allegedly entered the wrong lane and rammed into the Scorpio vehicle. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over reckless driving and road safety in and around Guwahati.
The tragic incident comes amid a series of recent road accidents reported across the city and other parts of Assam. The loss of three lives on the sacred occasion of Eid has left family members and local residents in deep shock and grief.
Police reached the spot soon after the accident and launched an investigation into the incident. Further details regarding the driver of the truck and possible legal action are awaited.
