Tension in Dhubri’s Boterhat After Alleged Discovery of Suspected Beef Remains Near Temple and Hindu Household

Golakganj, Assam: Tension gripped Boterhat area under Golakganj in Assam’s Dhubri district after alleged remains of prohibited meat were reportedly found near a Hari Mandir and inside the premises of a Hindu family’s residence.

According to local residents and members of Hindu organisations, a suspected animal ear was allegedly discovered in the courtyard of a Hindu household belonging to a local resident identified as Karen Ray near Boterhat High School. Reports also claimed that a piece of suspected meat was found within the vicinity of a Hari Mandir, triggering concern among local residents.

Following the incident, members of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal and the International Hindu Parishad visited the area and demanded an immediate investigation by the district administration and police.

Addressing the media, Manik Ray, who identified himself as the Dhubri district president of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, alleged that the incident may have been part of a conspiracy intended to create communal tension in the district. He urged the administration to identify those responsible and take immediate legal action.

Ray stated that Hindu organisations and local residents had been cooperating with the administration to ensure peace and maintain communal harmony during and after Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. He further claimed that any attempt to provoke unrest through such incidents should be dealt with strictly.

Another local Hindu organisation leader, Girindra Chandra Ray, who identified himself as the general secretary of the Dhubri district unit of the International Hindu Parishad, also condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation. He appealed to members of the Hindu community to remain united while seeking justice through lawful means.

The organisations have demanded that police investigate whether the remains were deliberately placed at the locations or whether any illegal slaughter activity had taken place nearby. They warned that failure to take prompt action could lead to democratic protests in the area.

As of the filing of this report, district authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the allegations. Police were reportedly informed about the matter, and residents are awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

The incident has sparked concern in the locality, with community leaders urging people to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumours until the facts are established through an official inquiry.

Authorities are yet to verify the nature of the recovered remains, and no arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
