New Jersey: Spain’s FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph was complemented by a dominant showing in the tournament’s individual awards, with Rodri, Unai Simon and Pau Cubarsi receiving three of FIFA’s highest honours following the team’s title-winning campaign.
The awards were announced after Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to secure Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title.
Midfielder Rodri was named the winner of the Golden Ball, recognising him as the tournament’s best player. The Manchester City midfielder played a key role throughout Spain’s unbeaten campaign, controlling midfield and helping guide La Roja to the championship.
Goalkeeper Unai Simon received the Golden Glove Award after anchoring Spain’s defence throughout the tournament. Simon kept seven clean sheets in eight matches as Spain conceded only one goal during the competition. He also set a FIFA World Cup record by going 650 consecutive minutes without conceding.
Spain’s impressive tournament was further highlighted by Pau Cubarsi, who was named the FIFA Best Young Player. The 19-year-old defender emerged as one of the breakout stars of the competition, delivering composed performances at the heart of Spain’s defence.
France captain Kylian Mbappe claimed the Golden Boot after finishing as the tournament’s leading scorer with 10 goals in eight matches. Although France were eliminated in the semi-finals, Mbappe became the first player in men’s FIFA World Cup history to win the Golden Boot in consecutive editions. He also extended his record as the highest goalscorer in men’s FIFA World Cup history with 22 career goals.
The Netherlands were presented with the FIFA Fair Play Award in recognition of their discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Spain concluded the competition with one of the tournament’s strongest defensive records, conceding just a single goal in eight matches while securing both the World Cup trophy and several of FIFA’s top individual honours.
