New Delhi: A bomb threat targeting Delhi’s historic Red Fort triggered a swift security response on Saturday after an anonymous caller informed the Mumbai Police Control Room that the monument would be blown up. Following an extensive search of the premises, Delhi Police confirmed that the threat was a hoax and no suspicious object was found.
According to police officials, the alert was first received by the Mumbai Police Control Room, which immediately shared the information with the Delhi Police Control Room. The North District Police was subsequently alerted, and security personnel were deployed to the Red Fort to carry out a comprehensive search operation.
Teams thoroughly inspected the monument and its surrounding areas to ensure public safety. After completing the search, police confirmed that no explosives or suspicious materials were discovered, and the threat was declared false.
An investigation has been launched to identify the person behind the anonymous call and determine its origin. Officials said legal action will be taken against those responsible under the relevant provisions of law.
The incident comes amid a series of hoax bomb threats reported across the National Capital Region in recent weeks. Earlier this month, two schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails, prompting the evacuation of students and staff before security agencies confirmed the threats were false. In June, the office of the Mayor of Delhi also received a bomb threat warning of attacks at multiple locations in Delhi and Haryana. Subsequent searches in that case also found no explosives.
Authorities have reiterated that hoax bomb threats not only create public panic but also divert critical police and emergency resources. The investigation into the latest incident is ongoing.
