Atlanta: Lionel Messi inspired a sensational second-half comeback as Argentina fought back from two goals down to defeat Egypt in a dramatic FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 clash, keeping the defending champions’ title defence alive.
With just over 20 minutes remaining, Argentina looked set for a shock exit after Egypt established a commanding two-goal lead. Adding to the defending champions’ frustration, Messi had earlier missed a first-half penalty, leaving Argentina with a mountain to climb.
