Mechanised Cleaning Drive Improves Hygiene at Barpeta Road Railway Station

BARPETA ROAD: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has carried out a mechanised cleaning drive at Barpeta Road Railway Station in Assam under Special Campaign 6.0, as part of efforts to improve cleanliness and hygiene for railway passengers.

In a post on X, Northeast Frontier Railway said the initiative was aimed at creating a cleaner and more pleasant environment for passengers. The railway zone shared footage of the cleaning activity at the station, highlighting its ongoing focus on maintaining cleaner railway premises.

The drive forms part of Special Campaign 6.0, the Government of India’s Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters. The nationwide campaign includes cleanliness activities and efforts to improve the management of public spaces and railway facilities. According to the Ministry of Railways, the 2026 campaign runs from October 2 to October 31, with targets that include cleaning 100,000 sites and clearing accumulated scrap and waste.

Cleanliness at railway stations is an important part of passenger services, particularly in areas used by large numbers of travellers, including station entrances, platforms and waiting areas. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help support better hygiene and improve the overall passenger experience.

Barpeta Road Railway Station is located in Assam’s Barpeta district and is part of the Northeast Frontier Railway network. The latest drive reflects the railway’s stated efforts to strengthen station cleanliness through targeted maintenance activities.

The Northeast Frontier Railway’s post did not provide details on the duration of the drive, the equipment used, or the amount of waste removed. Further information on these aspects was not included in the public announcement.

Through initiatives under Special Campaign 6.0, Indian Railways is continuing to emphasise cleanliness, sanitation and improved public spaces across its network.
