High-Pressure Nitrogen Gas Leak Triggers Panic in Assam’s Samaguri

Nagaon: A sudden nitrogen gas leak from a tanker on National Highway 127 in Samaguri, Nagaon district, created panic among local residents on Friday, November 6. The incident occurred while nitrogen was being transferred from one tanker to another.

According to reports, the tanker had been involved in a road accident two days earlier and was reportedly in police custody. During the unloading process, gas suddenly began escaping at high pressure, causing dense vapour to spread towards nearby residential areas.

Fearing a possible safety hazard, several residents rushed out of their homes. The tanker reportedly belongs to an oxygen plant located at Gendhali in Samaguri.

The incident has raised concerns over industrial safety, with allegations that the gas transfer was conducted without adequate protective equipment and precautionary measures. Nitrogen can displace oxygen in the air, creating a risk of suffocation, particularly in confined spaces.

The exact cause of the leakage, any injuries and details of the authorities’ response have yet to be confirmed. Further information is awaited.
