Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has cleared encroachments from the cycle track at Kanaklata Path, restoring dedicated space for cyclists and pedestrians and improving accessibility along the stretch.
The civic body shared the update through its official X handle, stating that the encroachment removal was carried out to ensure safe and unobstructed movement on the cycle track. The action has reopened the space for its intended use after it had been affected by illegal occupation.
Cycle tracks are designed to encourage non-motorised transport while providing safer mobility for cyclists and pedestrians. Encroachments on such public infrastructure can restrict movement and compromise road safety, making periodic enforcement drives necessary.
Along with announcing the clearance, the GMC appealed to citizens to support efforts to keep public spaces free from encroachments. The civic body said protecting roads, footpaths, cycle tracks and other public infrastructure is a shared responsibility and called on residents to help preserve these facilities for the benefit of all.
The corporation also reiterated its commitment to maintaining clean, safe and accessible public spaces across Guwahati through regular civic enforcement and public cooperation.
The latest drive at Kanaklata Path reflects the GMC’s continued focus on improving urban infrastructure and ensuring that facilities created for pedestrians and cyclists remain available for public use.
