GMC Conducts Late-Night Encroachment Removal Drive Near VIP Road in Guwahati

Guwahati | July 22: In a move aimed at improving public accessibility and urban management, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) carried out a late-night eviction drive in the Borbari area near VIP Road, Sixmile, removing unauthorised encroachments from public spaces.

According to the civic body, the operation was undertaken to clear obstructions occupying public land and ensure that roadsides and other common areas remain safe and accessible for residents. The drive was conducted during the night as part of GMC’s ongoing efforts to maintain orderly civic infrastructure across the city.

The municipal authority said the initiative was focused on reclaiming public spaces affected by illegal encroachments and promoting a cleaner, more organised urban environment.

In a statement shared through its official social media platform, GMC reaffirmed its commitment to keeping public areas free from unauthorised occupation and ensuring that civic infrastructure is managed effectively for the benefit of the public.

The corporation has been undertaking enforcement measures in different parts of Guwahati to improve urban planning and safeguard public spaces. However, officials did not provide details on the number of encroachments removed during the Borbari operation.

The latest action reflects GMC’s continued emphasis on maintaining obstruction-free public areas and strengthening civic management in the rapidly growing city.
