GMC Calls for Separate Disposal of Batteries, Expired Medicines and Other Hazardous Waste

Guwahati Municipal Corporation hazardous waste

GUWAHATI, October 20: Residents of Guwahati have been urged to pay special attention to household waste segregation, with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) warning that hazardous materials should never be mixed with ordinary domestic garbage.

In an awareness message on social media, the civic body listed used batteries, expired medicines, broken bulbs, paint containers and insecticide packaging among the items that require careful handling and separate disposal. GMC cautioned that careless dumping of such waste could endanger public health and contaminate the surrounding environment.

The corporation encouraged citizens to develop responsible disposal habits as part of broader efforts to keep the city clean and safe. Its campaign also stresses that separating hazardous waste at home is an important step towards more effective urban waste management.

GMC appealed to residents to participate in these practices and help create a healthier environment for the people of Guwahati.
