GUWAHATI, October 20, 2026: A fire at a tyre shop in the Wireless locality of Beltola caused concern on Tuesday, particularly because the commercial establishment is situated close to a petrol pump in an area witnessing increased public movement during Durga Puja.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the location after the blaze was reported. Their immediate priority was to stop the fire from spreading to the neighbouring fuel station and nearby commercial establishments, where the consequences of an uncontrolled blaze could have been severe.
An electrical short circuit inside the shop is suspected to have caused the incident, according to preliminary information. The exact cause, however, remains subject to confirmation by the relevant authorities.
Emergency personnel worked to contain the flames and eventually brought the situation under control. The fire was extinguished before it could spread to the nearby petrol pump’s fuel storage facilities or adjoining businesses, preventing a potentially more serious incident.
The situation was especially concerning because of the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations and the presence of people in the surrounding area. An official from Hatigaon Police Station reportedly identified the nearby petrol pump and festival crowds as major concerns during the response.
No deaths or injuries were reported in the incident. According to the information provided, the site was subsequently handed over to the electricity department for further safety-related measures.
The incident serves as a reminder of the need for proper electrical maintenance and fire-safety precautions at commercial establishments, especially in busy neighbourhoods where shops operate close to fuel stations and other potentially hazardous facilities.
