Guwahati: The Assam government is set to expand its network of CBSE-affiliated Adarsha Vidyalayas and introduce Senior Secondary sections in 13 existing schools as part of its efforts to strengthen school education across the state.
The plans were reviewed during a meeting chaired by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu at Janata Bhawan with officials of the Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (AVS), the body responsible for managing Assam’s English-medium CBSE-affiliated Adarsha Vidyalayas.
According to Pegu, the meeting focused on the progress of civil infrastructure works being executed by the Public Works Department (Buildings) in the 57 operational Adarsha Vidyalayas. He said the government is working to complete the projects on schedule while expanding the reach of the school network.
Sharing details of the review on X, the minister said the government intends to commission additional Adarsha Vidyalayas across Assam and establish Senior Secondary sections in 13 existing schools to provide students with uninterrupted access to higher secondary education.
Pegu also highlighted the academic performance of the schools, stating that the Adarsha Vidyalayas recorded an overall pass percentage of around 90% in the HSLC examination. He attributed the results to the combined efforts of teachers, students, school managements and other stakeholders.
The Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan oversees Assam’s network of CBSE-affiliated English-medium schools, which were established to improve access to quality education across different parts of the state. The proposed expansion and infrastructure development are expected to increase educational opportunities for students while strengthening the state’s public school system.
