The tragedy began on Friday, November 6, when an explosion and subsequent fire occurred at the OIL facility in Dibrugarh district during maintenance operations. Several workers sustained serious burn injuries and were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

Raju Dutta was the first worker to lose his life in the incident. Another victim, Tapas Gogoi, aged 40, from Milan Nagar in Dibrugarh, died at a private hospital around 3 am on Saturday. Rupam Gogoi’s death hours later raised the fatalities to three.

According to reports, the affected workers were employed by Spectron Engineers Private Limited, a Mumbai-based contractor engaged by OIL. Several injured workers were initially taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, while others received treatment at different medical facilities.

Oil India Limited deployed emergency firefighting teams and brought the blaze under control. The company has also constituted an internal inquiry committee to investigate the incident and recommend preventive measures.

The exact circumstances leading to the explosion remain under investigation, while further updates on the condition of the surviving injured workers are awaited.
