Guwahati: Several establishments linked to popular food business Bharatiya Jalpan came under the scanner of the Assam State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department following a coordinated search operation across Guwahati on October 28. The action was reportedly initiated over suspected discrepancies in the company’s financial records dating back nearly five years.
Accompanied by police personnel, GST officials inspected the food chain’s outlets at Christian Basti, Fancy Bazar near Railway Gate No. 3, and Kumarpara. The searches also extended to its production facility in Amingaon.
Electronic Devices and Financial Records Collected
The inspection continued late into the night, with officials spending considerable time examining records at the Christian Basti outlet. Investigators reportedly collected financial documents, electronic devices and other materials that could assist in verifying the establishment’s business transactions.
Staff members and representatives of Bharatiya Jalpan were also asked to cooperate with the investigating team during the searches.
The operation reportedly followed concerns about possible inconsistencies in financial accounts maintained over the past five years. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed the precise nature of the suspected irregularities or confirmed any tax violations.
The GST Department is expected to examine the collected records and digital evidence before determining whether further action is warranted. Additional findings from the investigation are awaited.
