Guwahati, July 7: The Assam Government has stepped up its efforts to prepare the state’s youth for international careers, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewing the progress of the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT) during a visit to the North East Skill Centre at Garchuk.
The review meeting focused on the implementation of international employment programmes being carried out under the Assam Skill Development Mission, which aims to equip young people with foreign language skills and facilitate overseas job placements.
During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Toshiaki Nishikawa, Kaushik Rai, Additional Chief Secretary K. K. Dwivedi, and Mission Director of ASDM Hanif Noorani. The delegation inspected the training facilities and reviewed the progress of students preparing for employment opportunities abroad.
Under the CM-FLIGHT scheme, the Assam Government provides financial assistance of ₹1.5 lakh per candidate to support overseas placements. The assistance includes ₹1 lakh for advanced Japanese language certification training and ₹50,000 towards relocation expenses after candidates secure employment overseas.
The programme has been designed to address the growing demand for skilled workers in international markets, particularly in Japan, while creating new employment avenues for the youth of Assam. By combining language training with placement and relocation support, the initiative seeks to improve the employability of candidates beyond India’s borders.
Sharing details of the visit on X, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary said the initiative reflects the state government’s focus on expanding global career opportunities for young people through skill development and specialised training.
Officials expressed confidence that the programme would help more candidates qualify for overseas employment while strengthening Assam’s position as a source of skilled manpower for international industries.
