India and Cyprus Elevate Ties to Strategic Partnership After Modi–Christodoulides Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held extensive bilateral talks in New Delhi with Nikos Christodoulides, marking a significant step forward in relations between India and Cyprus.

During the high-level meeting, both leaders agreed to further strengthen cooperation in key sectors including trade and investment, defence and security, technology, education, prosperity and cultural exchange. The discussions focused on expanding strategic collaboration and enhancing mutual engagement across multiple sectors.

The two countries also strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, particularly cross-border terrorism, and reiterated their commitment to deepening counter-terrorism cooperation.

Several important agreements related to security, innovation, education, culture and economic cooperation were signed during the meeting. Officials described the agreements as a major boost to bilateral ties and long-term collaboration between the two nations.

A major highlight of the visit was the decision to elevate India-Cyprus relations to the level of a “Strategic Partnership.” The move is being seen as a reflection of growing trust, stronger diplomatic cooperation and a shared global vision between the two countries.

Diplomatic observers believe the new strategic partnership will open fresh opportunities for economic growth, regional cooperation and stronger geopolitical coordination between India and Cyprus in the coming years.

The development is being viewed as a historic milestone in bilateral relations and an important step toward expanding India’s engagement with European and Mediterranean partners.
