Youth Allegedly Murdered by Friends in Hajo, Body Thrown Into River; Two Arrested

A shocking murder case has come to light in the Hajo area of Assam’s Kamrup district, where a young man was allegedly killed by his friends and his body thrown into a river in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The incident was reported from Hirapara Gendheletari in Ramdia, creating panic and outrage among local residents.

According to reports, the victim, identified as Munindra Deka alias Chikna, had been missing since May 3. After failing to trace him, family members lodged a missing complaint at Ramdia Police Outpost.

During the investigation, police detained two brothers from Majarkuri in Ramdia — Raju Deka and Mridul Deka — on suspicion and brought them in for questioning. Sources said that during interrogation, both accused allegedly confessed to murdering Munindra Deka and dumping his body into the Kolajal River.

Police further informed that another accused identified as Bipul Deka is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

Based on the confession of the arrested accused, a search operation was launched in the Kolajal River at Gendheletari Hirapara in the presence of police personnel. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been conducting an intensive search operation since morning to recover the body of the deceased.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the Ramdia area, with locals demanding strict action against those involved in the crime.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more details regarding the motive behind the alleged murder are expected to emerge after further interrogation and forensic examination.
