Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) arrested a woman during a raid at Amtola Basti in Byrnihat, seizing heroin, suspected stolen electronic devices and over ₹1.36 lakh in cash.
According to an official statement shared by Guwahati Police on X, the operation was conducted by a team from Basistha Police Station, which raided the hideout and apprehended Nehar Begum (30). Police alleged that the accused was involved in drug peddling and was also a receiver of stolen property.
During the search, the police recovered 67 vials of heroin weighing 78 grams, 214 empty vials, nine suspected stolen mobile phones, one suspected stolen tablet, one suspected stolen laptop, and ₹1,36,080 in cash. The recovered items were seized as evidence, and investigators have begun examining their alleged links to criminal activities.
Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and other applicable laws. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the seized heroin, establish the ownership of the recovered electronic devices, and identify any accomplices who may have been involved in the alleged offences.
The operation was carried out under Assam Police’s #WarOnDrugs campaign, an ongoing initiative aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the circulation of narcotic substances across the state. The latest action reflects the continued focus of the state police on tackling drug-related crimes while also acting against offences linked to stolen property.
Guwahati Police has urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information on drug trafficking and other criminal activities to help maintain public safety and strengthen the fight against organised crime.
