US-Iran Tensions Escalate Near Strait of Hormuz, Raising Global Energy Concerns

Dubai, June 28: Renewed military tensions between the United States and Iran have heightened concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital oil shipping routes. The latest developments have raised fears of potential disruptions to global energy supplies and international maritime trade.

According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces carried out airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, including surveillance systems, communication facilities, air defence sites, drone storage locations and mine-laying capabilities. The United States said the operation was conducted in response to what it described as Iranian attacks on commercial shipping and violations of the ceasefire agreement.

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S.-linked military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. The IRGC also warned that continued military action by Washington could halt ongoing efforts to end the conflict. However, the claims regarding the extent and impact of the retaliatory strikes have not been independently verified.

Authorities in Bahrain and Kuwait reportedly activated air defence systems and tightened security following the reported attacks. The Strait of Hormuz, situated between Iran and Oman, is a critical maritime corridor through which a significant portion of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes. Any disruption in the region could have far-reaching consequences for global shipping and energy markets.

Market analysts say prolonged instability in the region could trigger volatility in international crude oil prices and increase risks for commercial shipping in the Gulf. Governments and energy markets around the world are closely monitoring the evolving situation as diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation continue.
