SIVASAGAR, August 26, 2026: The Sivasagar district administration has completed around 85 per cent of its Rapid Damage Assessment Survey following the devastating floods that struck the district on July 19, with approximately 42,500 houses identified under the “severe damage” category so far.
The large-scale assessment, which began on August 9, has involved the deployment of 574 surveyors across affected areas. In addition to damaged houses, the survey is documenting losses to handlooms, livestock, goats, pigs and poultry.
The assessment process is scheduled to continue until August 30. District authorities have appealed to flood-affected families who may have been left out of the survey to immediately contact the local survey teams, panchayat presidents or ward members to ensure that their details are recorded before the deadline.
Meanwhile, the distribution of the Assam government’s announced financial assistance of Rs 15,000 to eligible flood-affected families is nearing completion.
According to the available data, Rs 15,000 in financial assistance had been successfully transferred directly to the bank accounts of 58,795 beneficiaries as of August 17.
However, fund transfers for more than 7,500 additional beneficiaries could not initially be completed due to discrepancies in bank account numbers, IFSC codes and other banking details. The corrected information was subsequently resubmitted to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on August 19, and the pending beneficiaries are expected to receive the assistance after the verification and transfer process is completed.
In a separate development, the district administration has forwarded a list of around 6,000 flood-affected people who submitted applications directly to the District Commissioner’s office to the ASDMA for necessary approval and further action.
The administration said that beneficiary data undergoes multiple levels of verification before financial assistance is released. The process involves scrutiny by the ASDMA and the concerned authorities handling fund transfers.
Applications still pending at the Sivasagar District Commissioner’s office are being digitised and verified. Eligible applicants will subsequently be recommended to the appropriate State authorities for approval and release of financial assistance.
With the Rapid Damage Assessment Survey nearing completion, the district administration has urged all eligible flood-affected families who have not yet been included in the assessment process to contact the concerned local authorities without delay.
