The continuous rise in the prices of essential commodities has become a major concern for common people, with many families finding it increasingly difficult to manage daily expenses. Along with the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices, the cost of vegetables, pulses, rice, and other household essentials has also gone up sharply in local markets.
During a ground report conducted by Voice 365 Bangla, several consumers and shopkeepers shared their concerns over the rising prices and the impact on everyday life. Many daily wage earners said the situation has become extremely difficult as their income remains limited while the cost of living keeps increasing.
Residents pointed out that after the elections and the formation of the new government, people expected some relief in prices. However, instead of decreasing, the rates of essential items have continued to rise. Consumers said items such as onions, potatoes, garlic, and pointed gourd are now being sold at significantly higher prices compared to previous weeks.
One vegetable seller stated that traders are selling products at the same rates at which they are purchasing them from wholesale markets. He also claimed that sales have dropped drastically due to the high prices. According to him, where shops earlier recorded sales worth around Rs 2,000 a day, many are now struggling to sell goods worth even Rs 500.
Several shopkeepers blamed seasonal factors and heavy rainfall for the increase in vegetable prices. They explained that during the rainy season, crop damage and flooding in agricultural areas often reduce supply, leading to higher market prices. Some vendors said the situation may improve once the winter season arrives and vegetable production increases again.
At the same time, many people questioned the government’s response to the growing inflation. Common citizens expressed concern that not only vegetables, but also petrol, diesel, rice, pulses, and other daily necessities have become costlier in recent weeks.
While some traders avoided directly blaming the government, others said authorities should take steps to control fuel prices and monitor the rising cost of essential commodities. They added that the burden of inflation is affecting both customers and small businesses alike.
The situation has left many low-income families worried about how they will continue to afford basic necessities as prices keep climbing across markets.
