West Jaiñtia Hills (Meghalaya): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the new building of Sohkha Government Higher Secondary School at Sohkha under the Amlarem Block in West Jaiñtia Hills district, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and ensuring quality education for every child.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also joined the All Sohkha Development Committee in felicitating meritorious students from the area, congratulating them on their academic achievements and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to transform the education sector over the past eight years, Sangma said the state has upgraded more than 2,000 schools and made significant investments in educational infrastructure. He added that the government has also focused on improving teacher training programmes, which, along with other reforms, has contributed to a historic improvement in the state’s Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination pass percentage.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that challenges still exist in the education sector but assured that the government remains committed to addressing them systematically through sustained reforms and targeted investments.

Addressing local residents, Sangma assured that the state government would continue to improve school infrastructure, provide additional facilities for Sohkha Government Higher Secondary School, strengthen road connectivity in the region, and ensure balanced development across West Jaiñtia Hills.

As part of the visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Children and Adolescent Library and Digital Infrastructure at Sohkha Mission Village. The initiative is aimed at promoting digital learning, improving access to educational resources, and creating a more conducive learning environment for children and adolescents in the area.

The visit reflects the Meghalaya government’s continued focus on expanding educational opportunities, modernising school infrastructure, and enhancing learning outcomes across the state. The announcements were made by the Chief Minister through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
