In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities in Upper Assam, police carried out a successful operation against United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), also known as ULFA(I), at Demow Palengi area.
According to sources, a large-scale operation was launched by the police based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of insurgent elements in the region. During the operation, police apprehended a dreaded ULFA(I) cadre identified as Rontu Asom alias Biren Chetia.
Security personnel recovered a pistol, ten rounds of live ammunition, and eight grenades from the possession of the arrested militant. The seizure is being considered significant in the ongoing crackdown against militant activities in the state.
The arrested cadre is reportedly a resident of Bejpathar village under Moran Police Station area in Assam.
Police officials stated that the operation was conducted smoothly and further investigation is underway to determine possible links, operational networks, and future plans associated with the militant outfit.
The successful raid has once again highlighted the intensified efforts of Assam Police and security agencies to curb insurgency and maintain peace and security across the state.
