Guwahati: Traffic movement on the outskirts of Guwahati was disrupted after severe waterlogging affected the 9 Mile and 10 Mile stretches, prompting the Guwahati Police to introduce immediate diversions for light motor vehicles (LMVs) to maintain traffic flow and ensure commuter safety.
According to the police, vehicles travelling towards Guwahati are being diverted from Digaru, while outbound traffic from the city is being rerouted via Koinadhara Point. Commuters leaving Guwahati have also been advised to use the Narengi route as an alternative until the affected road sections become motorable.
The temporary traffic arrangements were introduced after heavy accumulation of rainwater made parts of the route difficult for vehicles to navigate safely. Traffic personnel have been deployed at key diversion points to regulate the movement of vehicles and assist motorists.
The Guwahati Police issued the advisory through its official X handle, urging commuters to plan their journeys in advance and expect delays while the diversions remain in effect. Authorities also appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel and avoid travelling through waterlogged stretches wherever possible.
The latest disruption comes amid continued rainfall in and around Guwahati, which has led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and affected normal vehicular movement. Officials are monitoring the situation, and the temporary diversions are expected to remain in place until road conditions improve.
Residents and commuters have been advised to stay updated through official announcements from the Guwahati Police before starting their journey, particularly if travelling along the Guwahati-Dimapur corridor, to avoid inconvenience and congestion.
