Guwahati: In a crackdown on property-related crime, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) arrested two alleged thieves and recovered several vehicle repair tools and equipment believed to have been stolen during an operation carried out by Basistha Police Station.
According to Guwahati Police, the accused have been identified as Manab Das (28), a resident of Sonapur, and Karan Sangma (30) from Basistha. Both were taken into custody after police recovered multiple suspected stolen items from their possession.
The seized articles include two 12V Power Zone batteries, one hydraulic bottle jack, one tyre vulcanising machine set, two double open-ended spanner wrenches, and one double-ended ring spanner. The equipment is commonly used in automobile repair and tyre servicing.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the two accused. However, officials have not yet disclosed the source of the recovered items or whether the suspects are linked to other theft cases reported in the city.
The investigation is continuing to determine the ownership of the seized equipment and to ascertain if the accused were involved in additional incidents of theft.
The arrests were announced by Guwahati Police through an official social media update, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Basistha Police Station team to curb theft and strengthen law enforcement in the city.
