GUWAHATI: Residents across Guwahati will see census field officials visiting households from Monday, August 17, as the door-to-door enumeration exercise for the first phase of Census 2027 gets underway in the city.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), in a public notice shared on Sunday, urged residents to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information during the household data collection process.
According to the civic body, trained enumerators will visit homes to collect the information required for the upcoming Census exercise. Residents have also been requested to provide a safe and supportive environment for the field personnel while they carry out their duties.
The door-to-door exercise follows the self-enumeration facility made available to residents ahead of the field survey. In Assam, the online self-enumeration window for the first phase was scheduled from August 2 to August 16, with the houselisting and housing census beginning from August 17.
The first phase of Census 2027 focuses on Houselisting and Housing Census, which gathers information related to households, housing conditions, amenities and other details. The subsequent population enumeration phase, which will collect detailed demographic and socio-economic information about individuals, is scheduled for February 2027.
The GMC has appealed to citizens to ensure that the information provided to enumerators is complete and accurate. The cooperation of households will be important in helping officials compile reliable data for the census exercise.
The corporation has also specifically asked residents to pay attention to the safety of field workers, particularly in households where pet dogs or other animals are present.
Census 2027 is being conducted using digital technology, with self-enumeration also forming part of the process. The government has said that information collected during the census is protected by confidentiality provisions under the Census Act.
With the field exercise beginning across Guwahati from August 17, residents are encouraged to cooperate with authorised enumerators and provide the required information to support an accurate and inclusive Census 2027 process.
