Former MLA Ali Akbar Miah was detained by police ahead of Eid following alleged controversial remarks against the police and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to reports, Ali Akbar Miah allegedly made inflammatory comments stating that the Assam Police should be “sacrificed,” triggering strong reactions. He also reportedly made objectionable remarks targeting the Chief Minister.
Police personnel, led by the district Superintendent of Police, reached the former legislator’s residence in Bilasipara and detained him after nearly two hours of questioning. The operation was carried out amid heightened security arrangements ahead of Eid celebrations.
Ali Akbar Miah is a two-time former MLA from the West Bilasipara constituency in Bilasipara. Visuals from the scene showed media personnel questioning the former legislator while police escorted him from his residence.
The detention has sparked political discussions in the region, with authorities yet to officially disclose detailed charges related to the case. Police have not released further information regarding the ongoing investigation.
The incident comes at a time when the state administration has been maintaining strict vigilance over provocative statements and activities that could disturb public order.
