An intensive search operation is continuing in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Dibang Valley after a flash flood struck an Army camp and swept away two shelters, leaving several soldiers unaccounted for.
According to officials from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), seven Army personnel were initially swept away when heavy rainfall triggered the flash flood on Friday. Two soldiers were subsequently rescued, while five personnel are reported to remain missing.
The Defence spokesperson, however, has not yet officially confirmed the number of personnel still missing.
According to the Defence account, a cloudburst occurred in the Pashu Pani area near Anini, triggering a major landslide and inundating the affected location. Rescue operations were launched immediately, resulting in two soldiers being brought to safety.
Additional rescue teams were deployed from nearby Army posts despite difficult weather conditions and flooding in the region. Search teams are continuing efforts to locate and evacuate personnel affected by the disaster.
Army aviation assets have also been pressed into service to support the operation, including facilitating emergency medical evacuation where required. Authorities said available resources are being deployed in a coordinated manner, with rescue and relief operations being treated as a priority.
