Dibrugarh: Concerns over food safety, school administration and basic infrastructure have surfaced at Marwari Hindi High School in Dibrugarh following an inspection reportedly conducted by members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) along with a media team.
During the inspection, damaged and foul-smelling food items were reportedly found on the school premises, raising questions about food storage, hygiene and the manner in which such materials were being handled.
The discovery has attracted particular attention after school representatives reportedly stated that the mid-day meal programme had been discontinued several years ago. This has led to questions about why food reportedly associated with the scheme was still present on the premises and how long the items had remained there.
AASU members reportedly questioned the school authorities about the condition of the food and sought clarification regarding the present status of the mid-day meal arrangement. The student organisation has called for an investigation into the matter and urged the authorities to establish the facts.
The food-related concerns have emerged alongside an ongoing dispute over the administration of the school. Allegations have been raised regarding the functioning of government-appointed headmistress Rajani Sharma and mathematics teacher Ram Niraj Singh. According to the allegations, Sharma’s authority has allegedly been restricted by the school management committee, while Singh has reportedly been functioning as headmaster.
Students have also alleged that Singh has not been conducting classes regularly for nearly two years. Such claims, if established, could raise concerns over academic supervision and the regular functioning of classroom activities at the institution.
Questions have also been raised about basic facilities available to students. Complaints reportedly include inadequate drinking water and non-functional ceiling fans in several classrooms, adding to concerns over the overall learning environment.
The developments have reportedly caused dissatisfaction among students, parents and some members of the teaching community. AASU has called for intervention by the education department to examine the allegations and take appropriate steps to address the problems facing the institution.
