Rangia: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] staged a protest demonstration in Assam’s Rangia against the continuous rise in prices of essential commodities and fuel products.
As part of the protest programme, CPI(M) members and supporters gathered near Rangia’s 1 No. Police Point and later held a public meeting in front of the Circle Office. The protesters also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Assam through the local administration, demanding immediate steps to control inflation and reduce the burden on common people.
During the protest, party leaders alleged that the Central Government’s economic policies were favouring corporate houses while ordinary citizens were suffering due to rising prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders, food items, and life-saving medicines.
The speakers claimed that the government had provided large-scale tax relief and loan waivers to corporate groups over the years, while the common public continued to struggle with inflation and increasing living costs.
CPI(M) leaders further alleged that prices of fuel and cooking gas increased sharply after the conclusion of Assembly elections in five states. They criticised the rise in LPG cylinder prices and accused the government of imposing additional economic pressure on the people.
During the demonstration, party representatives also questioned the Centre’s foreign policy regarding crude oil imports. The speakers claimed that countries such as Russia and Iran were willing to provide oil at cheaper rates, but India was allegedly not fully utilising those opportunities.
The protestors urged people from all communities, irrespective of caste, religion, or political affiliation, to unite against price rise and demand stronger action from the government.
Local officials received the memorandum and assured the protestors that it would be forwarded to the concerned authorities for necessary action.
