As flood conditions continue to challenge several states during the southwest monsoon, the Centre has approved Rs 2,117.85 crore in advance assistance from its share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Assam will receive Rs 379.35 crore under the latest allocation.
The decision, approved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is aimed at ensuring that flood-affected states have funds available for immediate relief and response operations.
Among the other beneficiaries, Arunachal Pradesh will receive Rs 44.55 crore, while Gujarat and Maharashtra have been allocated Rs 500 crore each as their first instalment of the Centre’s SDRF contribution for 2026-27. Himachal Pradesh and Odisha will receive Rs 193.95 crore and Rs 500 crore, respectively, as advance releases of their second instalments.
The Centre has allowed the first instalments for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra to be released by relaxing certain documentation requirements in view of the urgent need for flood relief resources.
Central agencies have also been supporting rescue and relief efforts, including the advance deployment of National Disaster Response Force teams and logistical assistance from the Ministry of Defence. Inter-Ministerial Central Teams have been sent to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to assess flood-related damage.
Given the severity of the situation in Assam, central teams have already undertaken two assessment visits. An additional assessment team is also being constituted for Nagaland following a request from the state government.
The advance release is expected to strengthen relief operations and help the affected states meet immediate requirements arising from the ongoing floods.
