Basistha Police Arrest Two in Connection with Multiple Temple Theft Cases

Guwahati | July 22: A team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) has arrested two persons allegedly involved in multiple theft cases at temples in Guwahati, police said.

The accused have been identified as Rajibul Islam (22), a resident of Six Mile, and Semim Ali (23), a resident of Khetri. According to Guwahati Police, both were wanted in connection with several temple theft cases.

During the operation, police seized ₹5,049 in coins along with one mobile phone from the possession of the accused. The recovered coins are suspected to be linked to thefts from temple donation boxes, although police have not disclosed further details regarding the individual cases.

Following the arrests, the accused were taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them.

Guwahati Police shared details of the operation through its official social media handle, stating that the arrests were made by an EGPD team from Basistha Police Station as part of the investigation into the temple theft cases.

Police have not yet released additional information regarding the number of cases linked to the accused or whether further arrests or recoveries are expected. The investigation is currently underway.
