Guwahati: A late-night operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police in Guwahati has led to the seizure of 397 grams of suspected heroin and the apprehension of three people allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

The operation was carried out during the intervening night of August 27 and 28, 2026, after the STF received specific information about the transportation of narcotics. Acting on the intelligence, the team intercepted a Renault Triber at Sonkochi Path in the Beharbari area of Guwahati, under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 37 soap cases containing suspected heroin, with a combined net weight of 397 grams. The suspected contraband was found concealed in two bags.

The three persons apprehended during the operation have been identified as Kiron Singha, 49, from Cachar district of Assam; S. Nengpi Vaiphei, 36, from Imphal East, Manipur; and Ngaineichong, 41, from Churachandpur, Manipur.

Police also seized ₹21,000 in cash, mobile handsets, SIM cards, two bags and the vehicle used in the alleged transportation of the narcotics, according to reports based on information provided by the STF.

A case has been registered at the STF Police Station as STF PS Case No. 08/2026, and further investigation is underway. Investigators are looking into the source and intended destination of the suspected heroin and are also attempting to identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged trafficking network.
