GUWAHATI: Contractors responsible for delaying government projects could face blacklisting, as Assam Soil Conservation Minister Aswini Ray Sarkar has directed officials to take strict action against those failing to complete work within the stipulated timeframe.
During a review meeting on various schemes and ongoing projects of the department, the minister assessed pending works and examined the reasons behind delays. He stressed the need for proper utilisation of public funds and called for greater transparency, quality and accountability in the execution of government projects.
Sarkar instructed officials to proceed against contractors who have failed to complete assigned works even after their deadlines have expired. Where required, such contractors should be blacklisted in accordance with existing rules for negligence and prolonged delays.
He also asked the department to accelerate pending works and ensure that projects and schemes are completed on schedule so that their intended benefits reach the public. The minister said punctuality, transparency and accountability must remain central to the functioning of the department.
