Guwahati: Assam arm wrestler Aloka Doley has earned national recognition after winning gold and silver medals at the Sixth National Arm Wrestling Championship held in Bengaluru, paving the way for her selection to represent India at the upcoming World Arm Wrestling Championship in Japan.
The achievement was acknowledged by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, who felicitated the young athlete at his official residence on Friday and congratulated her on bringing laurels to the state through her impressive performance at the national-level competition.
According to the minister, Doley secured the medals while competing in the 70-kg category, showcasing her strength and determination against participants from across the country. Her outstanding performance has earned her a place in the Indian contingent for the World Arm Wrestling Championship, scheduled to begin in Japan on September 22.
Congratulating the athlete, Pegu expressed confidence that Doley would continue her winning run on the international stage and make both Assam and the nation proud through her talent and dedication.
“Aloka Doley has brought glory to Assam with her remarkable achievement at the national championship. I wish her every success as she prepares to represent India at the World Arm Wrestling Championship in Japan,” the minister said in a post on X.
The minister also highlighted the growing achievements of Assam’s young sportspersons in national and international competitions, stating that such accomplishments inspire aspiring athletes across the state to pursue excellence in sports.
Doley’s selection to represent India marks another significant milestone for Assam’s sporting community and reflects the increasing presence of athletes from the state in international competitions.
