Guwahati: A four-day educational exposure programme under the Assam government’s AROHAN initiative is giving meritorious Class X students from Kamrup district an opportunity to experience leading academic, scientific, cultural and professional institutions across Guwahati.
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu interacted with the fourth batch of AROHAN students at a cultural programme held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. During the interaction, Pegu spoke to the students about education, career opportunities and his own experiences of visiting prominent institutions in Guwahati and its metropolitan area.
The Batch 4 exposure visit began on August 26 and is scheduled to conclude on August 29. According to reports on the programme, 276 high-performing Class X students from across Kamrup district are participating in the four-day tour, including 98 boys and 178 girls.
The programme has been organised by Samagra Shiksha, Kamrup, with the objective of providing students with direct exposure to institutions and career possibilities beyond the classroom.
As part of the itinerary, the students have visited or are scheduled to visit institutions and locations including the Guwahati Planetarium, IIT Guwahati, AIIMS Guwahati, IIIT Guwahati at Bongora, Tech City at Bongora, Assam State Zoo, Narangi Military Station, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Assam Administrative Staff College and the National Science Centre.
The exposure programme combines academic visits with career counselling, motivational interactions and cultural activities. The initiative is intended to help students understand different educational and professional pathways and encourage them to make informed decisions about their future.
AROHAN is an official Government of Assam programme designed as a mentor-mentee initiative for meritorious students of secondary classes in government schools. The programme seeks to provide guidance, support and mentoring to talented students and help them progress academically and professionally.
The Kamrup district administration is overseeing the current exposure programme. Deba Kumar Mishra, ACS, is the District Commissioner of Kamrup, according to the official district administration website.
The cultural programme at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra also gave the students an opportunity to showcase their talents. The Kalakshetra, located at Panjabari in Guwahati, is a major cultural institution of Assam dedicated to preserving and promoting the state’s diverse cultural heritage.
Speaking to the students, Pegu encouraged them to make full use of the exposure and mentoring opportunities provided through AROHAN and use the experiences gained during the tour to build greater confidence about their educational and career goals.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to supplement classroom education with practical exposure, career guidance and mentorship for promising students.
